Hotel de Toiras - Saint-Martin-de-Re

Set on the tranquil island ?le de R?, off the Atlantic coast of France, the H?tel de Toiras is a rustic building set at the entrance to the port of Saint Martin de R?, the historical capital of the island. The battered fa?ade of the building reflects its position facing the Atlantic Ocean for nearly four centuries. The 12 bedrooms are named after important figures from Charente Maritime, from authors Madame de S?vign? and Pierre Loti, painters Louis Suire and Chapelain Midy Natter, to historical figures includi1ng Samuel de Champlain and the Duke of Buckingham. Therefore, the interior decoration is inspired by anecdotes from the history of each of these figures, including special fabrics, paintings, books and ornaments. Modern amenities include flatscreen cable TVs.
Right in the center of the hotel lies a small garden, where guests can relax amongst the flowers and shrubs. Guests can also order meals to be eaten in the lounge area or in their rooms. The seminar room can hold up to 15 people and has telephone lines, projection screens, television and VCR. Guests can make the most of the maritime climate to try their hand at sea fishing, kite surfing, or sailing; hotel staff are on hand to help. The island's lighthouse is 17 kilometers away, as is the 12th century abbey of the Ch?teliers and the Noah's Ark and Amazonia Parks wildlife park. La Rochelle Airport is located on mainland France. The ?le de R? is best accessed by boat or by the bridge; a toll is payable. Travel around the island is best done on foot, by bicycle or by car.

The hotel has now its own restaurant open to hotel guests. Reservations required.
